The charming animal portraits continue from Picasso, this time absorbed into the vibrant colour scheme of the south of France. Despite minimal lines and detail, one is immediately transported into a calming seascape, bordered by a collection of comfortable local pigeons. Whites and blues again dominate this artwork, as is the case with The Bay at Cannes which appeared a year later. Comparisons again will be made with Matisse's Open Window, and the friendship between these two artists clearly influenced their own work.
